On May 27, Elogio de lo impuro by Spanish composer Elena Mendoza receives its world premiere presented by Trio Neopercusión in Madrid.

Mendoza’s new work for three percussionists is a musical theatrical piece about the term ‘purity’ in the human and social sense. The musicians clean their instruments to demonstrate the words ‘pure’, ‘clean’ and ‘dirty’ and their actions are accompanied by literal quotes that comment and question what is happening on stage.

The aim of Elogio de lo impuro is to make the audience think about the terms that despite their positive meaning always imply something negative: the rejection of the different. This, unfortunately, is something that becomes more and more present in today’s society because of disruptive and populist tendencies.
