On the occasion of their 50th anniversary, œnm – œsterreichisches ensemble fuer neue music premiers Mark Andre’s new work Vier Stücke für Ensemble under the baton of grand seigneur Heinz Holliger on February 1. The work for chamber ensemble was commissioned by œnm with support of the Ernst von Siemens Musikstiftung.
Vier Stücke für Ensemble deals with the theme of the ephemeral, the revelation of the most fragile, innermost, perhaps most intense phenomenological, compositional periods of time.
It refers to the eleventh book of St Augustine's “Confessions”: ‘The past is not honorable, the future not yet.’ And also to the presence of the Holy Spirit mentioned in the Gospel of John, 3:8: ‘The wind blows where it wills, and you hear the sound of it, but you do not know where it comes from or where it goes. So is everyone who is born of the Spirit.’
