On the occasion of the 300th anniversary of Carl Theodor von der Pfalz, the art-loving elector of the Pfalz in the 18th century, different cultural institutions in Mannheim are organizing an anniversary concert on December 10, 2024 under the musical direction of Sebastian Camaño, Hermann Pallhuber, Jānis Liepiņš and Jan-Paul Reinke.

This concert features the first performance of Sidney Corbett’s Giovanni Himmelfahrt Remix for orchestra. This work responds to the music of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and continues Corbett’s approach to historic music which he already applied in Paganini Remix and Goldberg Hallucination Remix.

The musical language is his own, but one can hear subcutaneous fragments from Mozart's operas, from a recitative and aria of Donna Elvira, the harmonies from the "Drei Knaben" in the Magic Flute, from the last scene in The Marriage of Figaro and of course from the penultimate scene in Don Giovanni. There are many other references woven into the score, often reharmonized or otherwise disguised.
