Thursday January, 25 sees the premiere of acclaimed Swedish composer, Britta Byström’s new concerto for flute and orchestra Halcyon Days. The world premiere will take place in De Geerhallen, Norrköping in Sweden. No less than three Swedish orchestras have joined forces to commission this new work: Norrköping Symphony Orchestra, Swedish Chamber Orchestra, and Nordic Chamber Orchestra.

Britta Byström is one of the most prolific and sought-after Swedish composers. Her diverse portfolio includes operas, pieces for ensemble and choir, and an extensive list of orchestral works. She is well known for her many walks - short pizzicati pieces that serves as introduction to some of the most celebrated classical composers and works.

The talented young flutist Laura Michelin serves not only as the soloist but was also instrumental in making the joint commissioning effort possible. Michelin, a rising star in the Swedish classical music scene, debuted as a soloist with the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra in 2020. Since 2023, she has held the position of solo flutist in the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra.

Following the premiere in Norrköping, Halcyon Days is set to enchant audiences across Sweden, with performances scheduled throughout the next year with all three collaborating orchestras.
