Royal Opera House 2022/23 Season featuring premiere’s from Kaija Saariaho and Anna Thorvaldsdottir

The Royal Opera House in London’s Covent Garden has announced its 2022/23 Season that includes ground-breaking new opera Innocence from Kaija Saariaho – based on Sofi Oksanen’s novel and staged by acclaimed theatre director Simon Stone – which makes its long-awaited UK premiere after opening at Festival D’Aix-en-Provence last summer.

Saariaho was awarded “Victoires de la Musique Classique 2022” in the “Composer” category for her opera Innocence which is jointly commissioned by the Festival International d'Art Lyrique d'Aix-en-Provence, Royal Opera House Covent Garden, Finnish National Opera, San Francisco Opera and Dutch National Opera

Innocence runs April 17, 20, 26 and May 1, 4.

A world premiere from choreographer Wayne McGregor features the music of Catamorphosis and Metacosmos by Anna Thorvaldsdottir. Conducted by Koen Kessels, this will be the first time that Catamorphosis has ever been choreographed.

Wayne McGregor's new work runs June 9, 10, 12, 14, 15 and 17.

Public booking opens on Wednesday 27 July.
