G. Schirmer, Inc., part of Wise Music Group, announces it has signed composer Jeanine Tesori to a publishing agreement to promote and publish her operatic works.

Jeanine Tesori is an award-winning composer of musical theatre and opera. Together with Missy Mazzoli, Tesori is one of the first female composers commissioned by the Metropolitan Opera. Tesori's operas include Blue (libretto by Tazewell Thompson) premiered in July 2019 at The Glimmerglass Festival (named in The New York Times "Best Classical Music of 2019") with upcoming performances at Washington National Opera and Chicago Lyric Opera; A Blizzard on Marblehead Neck (libretto by Tony Kushner) premiered at The Glimmerglass Festival in 2011; The Lion, The Unicorn and Me (libretto by J.D. McClatchy on the book by Jeanette Winterson) premiered at Washington National Opera in 2013; and the forthcoming Grounded (libretto by George Brant based on his highly-praised award-winning play).

"We are honored to welcome Jeanine to our roster of composers," said Robert Thompson, President of G. Schirmer. "I have been in awe of her compositional voice, and the depth of emotion in her writing, ever since hearing her Tony Award-winning score to Fun Home."

Best known for her musical theater works, her award-winning catalog includes Fun Home (Tony Award, Pulitzer finalist); Caroline, or Change (Olivier Award); Violet; Shrek; Thoroughly Modern Millie; Twelfth Night; A Free Man of Color; and by The Public at Central Park: Mother Courage. She is currently the Supervising Vocal Producer for Steven Spielberg's upcoming film adaptation of West Side Story. She is also the founding Artistic Director of Encores! Off-Center, and a lecturer at Yale University.

Tesori observed, "It gives me great joy to enter into a partnership with the iconic music publisher, G. Schirmer, Inc. My grandfather, composer Dominic Vento, was never able to fulfill the same dream, having work available on a global scale. I honor his ambition in the music I write, and my gratitude to him and the Schirmer family knows no bounds."
