The Secret of Wind and Birds: Tan Dun and the National Youth Orchestra of the USA
Carnegie Hall has commissioned Tan Dun to compose a new work for the National Youth Orchestra of the USA. Now in its third year, the National Youth Orchestra of the United States of America will make a historic first visit to Asia in July 2015, giving seven concerts in China in some of the greatest concert halls across several different regions of the country.

Passacaglia: The Secret of Wind and Birds is a concert-opener composed for full orchestra and will be conducted in its premiere tour by Charles Dutoit, a conductor who has a long history with Tan Dun’s music, including conducting the premiere of Orchestral Theater IV: The Gate. The first performances of Tan’s new work will take place at The Performing Arts Center of Purchase College (July 10) and at Carnegie Hall (July 11). Subsequent performances are in Beijing, Shanghai, Suzho, Xi’an, Shenzen, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong,
