Danish Opera Premieres: Eichberg, Holten & Pape

This November in Copenhagen and London three new operas by Danish composers will be staged. 

Andy Pape is ready with the successor to his children´s opera Sigurd - the Dragon Slayer from 2005. His new opera Dampenes Rejse (The Journey of the Fumes is an opera for young people, which brings up questions about environment, pollution, coming of age and awareness of the world and the people around you. The premiere takes place on November 1 in Copenhagen, then the production tours across Denmark on 4, 10, 12, 14 and 20 November. 




The new opera Gesualdo.Shadows by Bo Holten will be premiered at the Royal Danish Opera on November 9, 11, 13 and 15. This work is the dramatisation of the life of history’s most sensational Renaissance composer, Carlo Gesualdo. The opera is scored for Baroque instruments and is seamlessly woven together with Gesualdo’s colourful and expressive music. Read more here.

Søren Nils Eichberg has composed a new opera called Glare which will be premiered at the Linbury Theatre, London on November 15, with further performances on 18, 19, 21, and 22.  Glare is a psycho-drama chamber-play with elements of science fiction, which focuses on the relationships between four protagonists. As doubts surface about whether one of the characters is an artificial human, the opera debates reality and its perception, the authenticity of experience, and emotion.
