Orion's Autumn

Orion's Autumn
With 10 performances in seven weeks over September and October, Kaija Saariaho’s most recent and largest orchestral work Orion, is set to burst into the public consciousness.

The series of performances has begun, with the UK premiere at the BBC Proms performed by the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Jukka-Pekka Saraste.

"The stars are certainly auspicious for Kaija Saariaho … Orion illuminates a night sky of wide horizons. This stellar triptych has all the marks of Saariaho's minutely heard, meticulously imagined aural-visual synthesis, now writ confidently large on a formidable orchestral canvas." - Hilary Finch, The Times

Orion will then be seen all over Europe, under conductors Sakari Oramo, Giannandrea Noseda, Lothar Zagrosek, and Sir Simon Rattle with the Berliner Philharmoniker.

Kaija Saariaho will be featured composer at the Berlin Festival, September 10-14 this year. There will be performances of recent chamber pieces Je sens un deuxième coeur and Terrestre, with flautist Camilla Hoitenga and cellist Anssi Karttunen amongst the performers.
