Stookey: Zipperz
SoaPOPera: "The romance of opera, the sizzle of pop, the guilty pleasure of daytime television." Composer Nathaniel Stookey coined this phrase in order to explain his latest work Zipperz.

Based on the “zipper” poetry of fellow San Francisco Bay Area resident Dan Harder, Zipperz is a story of love and sex, a breathless affair for two singers and orchestra. The singers, who play themselves, “meet” for the first time on stage and are drawn into a relationship that unfolds through a series of awkward dates, long waits by the phone, sexual collisions (and ensuing doubts) — but also intense emotional catharsis.

The Oakland East Bay Symphony presents the world premiere of Zipperz on 14 November with music director Michael Morgan and Broadway regulars Manoel Felciano and Eisa Davis portraying the lovers.
