John McCabe London Philharmonic Orchestra recording released
19th November 2007

The CD of McCabe’s Concerto for Orchestra and The Chagall Windows is included in a box-set released on the LPO’s own label in celebration of the orchestra’s seventy-fifth anniversary.
Written in 1974, The Chagall Windows was inspired by Marc Chagall’s stained glass windows at the Hadasseh-Hebrew University in Jerusalem and was the subject of a Granada TV documentary at the time of its composition. McCabe’s Concerto for Orchestra was commissioned by the LPO for its fiftieth anniversary season and takes the form of a passacaglia which shows off the orchestra’s lyrical ability as well as its virtuosity.
