Birmingham Royal Ballet is staging a revival of the highly successful Edward II with music by John McCabe and choreography by David Bintley.

A chilling re-working of Marlowe’s dark epic, Edward II has been performed over 100 times since its premiere at Stuttgart Ballet in 1995, and has been recorded by the Birmingham Royal Ballet Sinfonia by Hyperion Records (CDA67125/6).

McCabe’s score brilliantly evokes the heightened emotions of the drama – intensified by striking set designs by Peter J Davison and costumes by Jasper Conran. Following its UK premiere in 1997, the Telegraph wrote “Edward is a triumph, a ballet drama of sweeping and chilling scale that showers credit on everyone involved”.

After performances at Birmingham Hippodrome on 26-29 September, the ballet tours to London (Sadler’s Wells, 11-13 October), Sunderland (Empire Theatre, 17-18 October) and Plymouth (Theatre Royal, 23-25 October).
