The music of Ludovico Einaudi exists in a space between genres, infused with a deep emotion of universal resonance. His compositions unfold through subtle repetition and gradual transformation, creating sound worlds that invite introspection and movement alike.

Einaudi’s music offers choreographers and dancers a rich terrain of possibilities. Its steady rhythms and lyrical phrasing can support both contemporary and classical vocabularies. Its emotional clarity allows choreographers to explore intimate gestures, sweeping ensemble patterns, or meditative stillness.

Wise Music is pleased to present a selection of Einaudi gems that are waiting to be choreographed.

Seven Days Walking (2019) - 50 minutes

Inspired by Einaudis meditative walks through the Alps over seven months, Seven Days Walking traces the subtle variations of a single path observed through shifting light, weather, and mood. Each of the seven volumes captures a different facet of the same journey  repetition transformed through perception. The music is rhythmic yet restrained, pulsing with a quiet momentum that invites movement both introspective and expansive. Its evolving textures and emotional landscapes make it ideal for an evening-length ballet or double bill, offering choreographers a rich terrain to explore cycles of nature, memory, and renewal.

Wetlands (2012) - 15 minutes

Commissioned by the National Centre for the Performing Arts in Beijing for World Environment Day, Wetlands is an orchestral meditation on the dialogue between water and land. Structured in five moments, the work moves through cycles of flow, erosion, renewal, and stillness — a sonic reflection on natures fragility and resilience. Its shimmering textures and suspended ending evoke both awe and uncertainty, leaving us to ponder our place within the natural world. For choreographers, Wetlands offers a powerful backdrop for exploring ecological themes, transformation, and the delicate balance between destruction and rebirth.

Domino (2015) - 23 minutes

Commissioned for the Royal Liverpool Philharmonics 175th anniversary, Domino is a luminous piano concerto inspired by the ancient Chinese game  a meditation on connection, reflection, and cascading motion. Einaudi weaves a network of musical tiles, where each phrase triggers the next through echo and variation. The result is kinetic and architectural, unfolding in waves of energy and resonance. For a choreographer, Domino offers a dynamic canvas for exploring cause and effect, individuality within structure, and the beauty of interdependence

Primavera (2006) - 7 minutes

Einaudi excels at soaring melodies on the piano supported by an orchestra, and his 2006 Primavera is no exception. Primavera unfolds like the awakening of spring itself  a slow bloom of repeating piano motifs over swelling strings that build with quiet urgency and emotional release. Its hypnotic rhythm and gradual crescendo offer rich choreographic possibilities: the pulse of new life, the arc of transformation, the tension between fragility and strength. The music’s clarity and drive invite movement that is both intimate and expansive  ideal for a ballet exploring rebirth, memory, or the cyclical nature of time.
