Biography
Philippe Boesmans (1936 - 2022) studied piano at the Royal Conservatory of Liège. After coming into contact with Pierre Froidbise, Henri Pousseur, Célestin Deliège and André Souris he bgan to write music as a self-taught composer, producing his first works in 1960.
Since 1985 he has been composer in residence at the La Monnaie opera house in Brussels, for which he wrote several commissioned operas.
His works appear regularly on the programmes of relevant festivals such as those in Darmstadt, Wasaw, Zagreb, Brussels, Royan, Metz and Avignon.
His opera Yvonne, Princesse de Borgogne was premiered on the 24th of January 2009 at the Opéra National de Paris.
