Programme Note
BIRTHDAY MUSIC FOR RICHARD RODNEY BENNETT was written in 1986 for the Guildhall String Ensemble to play in a concert which they gave at the Wigmore Hall, London, to celebrate Richard Rodney Bennett's birthday.
The piece begins with a melody derived from the musical letters of Richard Rodney Bennett's name. The music is a gradual accelerando which after reaching a climax subsides into a sestained coda which re-states the initial material.
BIRTHDAY MUSIC FOR RICHARD RODNEY BENNETT lasts for about three minutes.
