Immer / Never (2026)
(for bass flute, bass clarinet in Bb and tenor saxophone in Bb)

Immer/Never is a basso trio for woodwinds in which the performers bring together language and instrumental sound in a variety of ways. Despite their sonic and rhythmic convergence, each instrumentalist speaks a different language (Spanish, German, English) throughout the entire piece. The texts spoken are all the dates of historical agreements reached by humanity after 1945, such as the Montreal Protocol on the Protection of the Ozone Layer or the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. These texts are to be understood neither as affirmative nor as negative; rather, they point to the Sisyphean nature of human understanding and serve as a reminder that, despite everything, this utopia is still worth striving for.

The piece was commissioned in 2026 for the “Up To Three” festival by Ensemble Mosaik under the theme “Alloys.”
