Geräusche (Noises) (1992)

Geräusche was composed in 1992 at the request of DeutschlandRadio, Cologne to commemorate the death of John Cage. It is the most radical of all my pieces up until this point. Here noises are left in their unaltered natural state and are simply combined to form ‘chords’. The two performers sit across from one another at a small wooden table. A desk lamp (with a 40 watt light bulb, or equivalent) on the middle of the table is the only light source. The tape case and the soap bottle should be hung from the desk lamp. In general the noises should be allowed to decay naturally.
