Hymnus für B. (Licht - Gesang) (2025)
(for violoncello and piano)

This work was commissioned by Ute and Heinrich Rentmeister for the Fischerkirche (Fishermen's Church) in Born on the Darß peninsula. After the premiere of my composition ‘Es ist das Licht’ (It is the Light) by the vocal ensemble Calmus 2025 in the Fischerkirche in Born on the occasion of the church's 90th anniversary, there was a desire for a second purely instrumental composition that was also connected to the church and the town of Born.

As the central motif, I set the letters of the place name to music and linked them with a quotation from the Bach aria ‘Bleibt, ihr Engel, bleibt bei mir’ (Stay, angels, stay with me) from the cantata ‘Es erhub sich ein Streit’ (A dispute arose) (BWV 19). The composition consists of five parts, a theme with variations.
