Programme Note
This work is an extension of the violin solo piece ...aus blauen Fernen... (From Blue Distances...) and, like that piece, is based on excerpts from texts by Novalis (Hymns to the Night), Japanese haikus, and Nikolaus Lenau (Reed Songs).
The intertwined arrangement of these literary elements creates a formal network that determines the basic structure of the music.
The haikus form small islands – separated from the rest – in which the main flow of events comes to a standstill, while the world of Novalis, which forms the basic layer, is a completely abysmal, remote, night-black one, evoked twice evoked by Lenau's Schilflieder – culminates in images of nature, first in a wild outburst, then in a mysterious mood, nature as a reflection of the soul.
In this way, the literary metaphors became musical ones, suspended in a new form and dramaturgy, creating a new whole.
