Programme Note
I composed Omnia mutantur in the spring of 2020, when all performances of my other works were cancelled due to the covid pandemic and normal life came to a halt. This was intended to be a compulsory piece for the 2021 Tallinn International Choir Competition - which, as it turned out later, was only held in 2023 due to the pandemic. I was looking for a text that would, on the one hand, express anxiety about the current global situation and, on the other, represent a timeless and stoic overview. And so I came up with the idea of using well-known quotes from the famous ancient Roman authors Virgil and Ovid. The overarching idea of this piece is to accept the idea that in the whirlwind of changes, trials make us stronger. It is important to refrain from violence and hope that love will ultimately conquer all.
