Programme Note
Composed between 1916 and 1919, Wilhelm Grosz’ Serenade, Op. 5 was his first large work for orchestra. It was premiered by the Staatskapelle Dresden in January 1921, followed by performances by the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. The work is full of late-Romantic charm, due to its unusual orchestration and complex harmonies.
