Nocturne (2013)
(Version for solo viola)

The original version of Nocturne was written for violin in early 1994 and dedicated to the memory of the Polish composer, Witold Lutoslawski. The piece is an exploration of early ideas for Kaija Saariaho's violin concerto, Graal Théâtre, on which she was working at the time. The viola version was created in 2013 by transposing the original version a fifth down, and was premiered by Atte Kilpeläinen on Meta4 String Quartet’s anthology of Kaija Saariaho’s string music.
