Programme Note

Performance Directions:

This song should be played without noticeable rubato, relying instead on getting into a groove (sitting back on the beat). The pulse should have momentum without rushing. As in most pop music, single grace notes are played (or sung) fast on the beat.

The vocal style is idiomatically suited to a pop or jazz style with minimal-vibrato. Both voice and percussion need to listen carefully to the guitar to make sure that it is balanced as a trio. Medium mallets for the vibraphone should be used and the motor turned off. A bow is required for the vibraphone.

Performance notes:

One Day is a pop song with a modified, extended structure. It was originally written in 1994 for Chronochomie as a duet but is here scored as a trio with guitar and percussion. The premiere performance of this version was given by Jeannie Marsh, Ken Murray and Peter Neville at the Boite World Music café on 25 June 1999.
