Programme Note

It became clear to me that the electronics react extremely sensitively and differentially to the quality of the instrumental material. Even the finest dynamic, tonal and articulatory changes in the performance are multiplied many times over by the electronics and reflected with dazzling opulence. This prompted me to completely rework ideas from the violin piece for a large, multi-coloured ensemble and expand them with numerous additional elements. The electronics' response to the input is not only grandiose, but also mercilessly honest. The greatest challenge is to find material that suits the electronics while remaining faithful to one's own instrumental musical language – to tailor the music to the electronics, so to speak – so that it can merge into an organic overall sound. The instruments never lose their original sound physiognomy and individual character, but become ‘super-instruments’ that together produce music reminiscent of complex plant structures – music that lives, speaks and breathes.
