        Written for Drew Gilchrist...my student at the time. He needed a 5 minute Australian work written in the last 25 years and I loosely said...Oh, I will just write you something. And he made me stick to my word. He has just completely first year of masters with the clarinet teacher of the moment in Freiburg...Killian Herold - after a year in the Ensemble Modern Academy. he is killing it...as they say.
         
        Between the second and third mvts my mother died and the emotional outpouring implicit in the third are a reaction to that. Extracts from the second and fourth moments feature in the cadenza of clarinet concerto.
