Programme Note
These three pieces are inspired by poems in Mina Gorji’s collections Scale and Art of Escape.
The things I learnt about the arthropod and insects featured in these poems include:
- a millipede carries around a cache of cyanide to use in self-defence;
- male fruit flies attract their mates by ‘singing’ with their wings;
- solitary bees line their nests with neatly cut willow herb, rose petals or rose leaf.
