Programme Note

I. Truth Is Told Not Fed
II. Rain
III. A Space Exploration With No Suit

The parts can be performed separately.

Truth is our center, truth is central - a shared civic reality holds the social body together and without truth, it will not hold. So how do we sing about truth? How do we call out into the world the importance of truth? How do we call in truth? We share. We connect. We connect to wisdom, and not just knowledge. We engage. We expand our hearts and we listen. Truth is told, not fed.

From this piece I wanted to take a closer look at the stories that branch from it and expand into a triptych tale. Rain grew from a beautiful meeting with the singers, Dianne and me. I started with the raindrops exiting the clouds of our previous piece “Truth Is Told Not fed” and we expanded on what the thought of rain, raindrops, water and bodies of water stir awake in us. It grew into a piece connecting us and our common search of answers and guidance during rising tides of fear and truths.

The third piece in the triptych Space Exploration With No Suit follows my curiosity of the double meaning of the word “space” which we encounter in the first piece. While in “Truth Is Told Not fed” we observe a being venturing into literal space, following a logic of domination and dismissal of anything that won’t mirror it’s own assumed shape, eventually dying during the unsustainable quest,; In “Space Exploration With No Suit” we follow the fantastic tale of a woman who ventures into her/their own space, a human cannonball who doesn’t fly or go into space but is “disloyal to civilisation” (Adrienne Rich from "On Lies, Secrets and Silence").
