Programme Note

The grand choral work Time is based on the story of the Tower of Babel in the Old Testament, one of the most famous passages in the Bible, where people are building a city with a tower to reach up to heaven. To prevent people from succeeding, God creates all the languages of the world. Time is a metaphor for the challenges of our time, where different languages and cultures meet and the need for conversations across national borders increases, and at the same time is timeless as people have always been dependent on communicating with one another.

The word "Time" appears in the lyrics in 27 different languages.
