Programme Note
the aisle for clarinet and string quartet is a piece about stillness, both painful and restful. Two of the most prominent features of the piece is the drone and the traditional Swedish folkmusic. The drone in my music can consist of everything from clusterbased harmonic fields to a single note – the importance for me is that it turns the focus of the listener towards the inner, subtle parts of the music. I think about it as trying to capture a moment in time by stretching it and looking at it very closly. The traditional folkmusic in this piece is a bridal march - "Jämtländsk brudmarch" from the north of Sweden which has been obscured by it's harsh treatment in various computer programs.
