Programme Note

These 16 pieces may be performed alone or in combination with Cage’s Music for Piano 4-19, 21-36, 37-52, and 53-68. Overlappings of pieces as well as silences between pieces is permitted. Dynamics, tempo, and the sounds to be played are determined by the performer(s). Cage’s compositional means were the use of imperfections found in the paper on which the work was composed (notes) and chance operations (number of sounds and other aspects).
