ROAI I (2002)
(for violin, cello and piano)- Henry Litolff’s Verlag GmbH & Co. KG (World)
Programme Note
Heraclitus' famous phrase "Ta panta rei" ("everything flows") served as a source of inspiration for my trio for violin, violoncello and piano.
Roai (river, flowing). The aspect of moving statics on the one hand and pure, permanent permutation on the other: questions like these, which are still a mystery in modern quantum physics and the world of matter and antimatter, fascinated me and formed the basic elements for the trio.
Melodic micro-patterns, continuously permuted sound production, glissandi, polyrhythms and horizontal rhythm development are exposed and elaborated in a highly expressive way in ROAI.
Far from philological considerations or even imitative representations of the "river", I try to grasp and continue the moment of flow and its origin as such in ROAI.
