Programme Note
Askese. Salvatores Dei by Minas Borboudakis is a 26-minute work for mixed choir and orchestra. It is based on the text of the same name by Nikos Kazantzakis, which deals with man's daily struggle in search of truth and God. The initially very lush soundscape is increasingly deconstructed, only to implode intensely at the end.
The world premiere took place on November 15, 2013, at the Herz-Jesu-Kirche in Munich with the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and Choir conducted by Ulf Schirmer.
