    Programme Note

    “…yet from those flames no light…”  is scored for harp and orchestra, but half of the orchestra is not visible during the performance. The soloist is surrounded on stage by cellis, basses and three groups of winds/percussion while the rest of the orchestra (and the conductor) are placed offstage. The piece takes its title and concept from the opening of John Miltons Paradise Lost.
