Prophecies of Stone (2023)

It sits in the palm of my hand, this small piece of white limestone. The story it tells is hundreds of millions of years old. Yet this is just one fleeting moment in the our-billion-five-hundred-million-year-old book of the Earth—the book that will continue to be written, with and without our presence, until our sun flames out in another four or five billion years. The deepest past and the distant future are written in the rocks beneath our feet. We are walking in deep time, amid prophecies of stone.
