KAPEL 575 (2023)
(The First 200 Years for Symphonic Brass)- Edition Wilhelm Hansen Copenhagen (World)
Programme Note
The title and subtitle to the present work refer to the fact that it was commissioned for the 575th jubilee of The Royal Orchestra of Copenhagen. ”The first 200 years” refers to the fact that a section of the piece is based on a fragment of a composition of Josquin des Prez, the motet Praeter rerum seriem, presumably composed around 1500, and that this piece still is in the archive of the Royal Orchestra, and that we with certainty can presume that the orchestra has played it about 500 years ago. The second part of the work is based on a tune from the middle of the 17th century, used very frequently in Danish spiritual life for the past 400 years, and therefore also has been played and sung by the Royal Orchestra many times over the years.
