Programme Note

In 2018 I was allowed to play with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra for a whole day. We did recordings of small parts of material in 32 channels.

Afterwards, I diffused individual parts through a spatialized sound system in the dark Hvelvet chamber at the heart of Sentralen and the piece was presented as the installation “13 ways to tame a beast”. The effect was like moving inside a three-dimensional orchestra, as the public could move between different ‘stations’ within the space. Different instruments were grouped together into six different stations; “worlds inside the universe”, which were broadcasted from six clusters of speakers.

In the Cage is the stage version of the project. The audience is trapped in the concert hall, not able to move around, so the piece is trying to do a little walk inside the orchestra. To carefully look at the orchestra from different angles. Shake it just a little bit - looking in, swiping around - putting the lens on different spots of the beast.
