Prelude and Laughing rock (2003)

Having read somewhere that Aboriginal languages sometimes use the same word for music and laughter, I composed this brief musical celebration of Uluru’s return to its traditional owners – a joyful utterance in the spirit of healing and reconciliation.

Insistently rhythmic and chant-like, Laughing Rock was commissioned by Belinda Webster for the cellist David Pereira. The more reflective Prelude was added in 1993.
