“Rosanna’s Death” was first heard in Hemingway’s Adventures of A Young Man (20th Century Fox, 1962). The film, directed by Martin Ritt, produced by Jerry Wald (his last), with a screenplay by A.E. Hotchner, was based on Ernest Hemingway’s first great success, The Nick Adams Stories; Rosanna, Nick’s ill-fated girlfriend, was portrayed in the film by Susan Strasberg. “Rosanna’s Death” is set in a hospital in Verona Italy during World War I.

The all-star cast includes Richard Beymer as Nick and Diane Baker, Corinne Calvert, Fred Clark, Dan Dailey, James Dunn, Juano Hernandez, Arthur Kennedy, Ricardo Montalban, Paul Newman, Jessica Tandy, Eli Wallach and Michael J. Pollard.

Franz Waxman created one of his lushest and most poignant dramatic scores for the film, one of the highlights of his distinguished career.
