Programme Note
Meditation for Orchestra was written for the New Orleans Symphony Orchestra. It uses source material from Concertino Antico.
This work is evocative, haunting and modal.
Peggy Glanville-Hicks composes music that is different. Some might call it ‘modern’ because it might not be what they are used to. It is music surprisingly easy to understand- once her basic principles or ideas are grasped. She simply emphasises rhythm and melody over harmony. She develops two contrasting themes simultaneously rather than successively. Or she fuses melody and rhythm.
