Programme Note

I composed this Trombone Concerto over the last several months as I was isolating with my family in Southern France during Coronavirus quarantine. I have always loved the Trombone and how flexible it is as an instrument. This work uses the instrument in different ways including as a propulsive rhythm machine in the first movement, as a melodic line in the second, and uses a wide variety of extended techniques and colors in the last movement. Reviews

Dessner's composition is multi-layered, challenging the listener and at the same time inviting them into a dream-like submersion. This is a piece that wants and needs to be discovered, and which the audience, in harmony, responds to with shouts of ‘bravo’.
