Penelope – Sarah Kirkland Snider - Penelope

Inspired by The Odyssey, the song-cycle by Sarah Kirkland Snider, Penelope is a meditation on memory, identity and what it means to come home. It is based on the text by playwright Ellen McLaughlin. This country premiere will be performed by the Four Winds Festival Ensemble featuring the solo voice of Georgie Darvidis.

New Music Days: Finding our Voice – Anna Thorvaldsdottir - Enigma

The country premiere of string quartet Enigma by Anna Thorvaldsdottir features amongst a programme of new music. Throughout the piece, the perspective continuously moves between the fundament and fragmented shadows, but the focus is always on the relationship between the two elements, that is - the "in-between”.

New Music Days: The ANAM Set (Director’s Cut) - Richard Mills - Che Scorre

Thu 20th April, 6pm

Conceived from ANAM’s 2021 commissioning project, the string duet for viola and cello, Che Scorre by Richard Mills will open the program. The Italian title translates to “That which flows” with music that moves like the ceaseless motion of water, winds and seasonal changes, a part of the cosmic motion of time. The work will also be performed at the Castlemaine State Festival.

Bach Barton Brodsky – William Barton – Square Circle Beneath the Red Desert Sand

William Barton performs on the didgeridoo and voice in Square Circle Beneath the Red Desert Sand alongside two icons of the classical canon, Bach and Schubert. The programme also includes the world premiere of Andrew Ford’s string quartet written during the bushfires of late 2019.

From Little Things – William Barton – A Little Thing

As Paul Kelly sings so memorably : “From little things, big things grow”. A Little Thing by William Barton opens the choral concert that brings together young people from Canberra’s own singing community together with the Djinama Yilaga choir from the Yuin community. They sing about our home, our land, our sky, our people.

Brodsky at Fifty – Joaquin Turina – Bullfighter’s Prayer

Brodsky Quartet celebrates 50 years in 2022. For this special occasion, the players have put together a selection of musical treats, including Bullfighter’s Prayer (La Oracion del Torero, Op. 34) a scintillating string quartet by the iconic Spanish composer Joaquin Turina.

Magic Eight - Per Nørgård – Wie ein Kind

Fri May 5th, 7:30pm

Between the two classic pillars of Schubert and Stravinsky, a modern masterpiece by Danish composer Per Nørgård is sung by the eight voices of Luminescence Chamber Singers. Wie ein Kind (Like a Child), conveys innocence and sophistication in settings of poetry by Adolf Wölfli and Rainer Maria Rilke.
