Dinosaur Scar (for alto saxophone) (1999)

The dinosaurs were so physically large that it would take time for the rest of their nervous systems to figure it out if they'd received a killing blow. To me, that's a beautiful idea — that sometimes you do things without knowing that you're doing them and what impact it will have later.

I wrote it in my sophomore year of college. It still rings true.
