Missa brevis (2009)
- Edition Wilhelm Hansen Copenhagen (World)
Programme Note
The work is originally written to be sung a cappella, but can also be performed with the organ. The Latin text is intended to be pronounced in Italian, and the first three bars of Kyrie can be performed as a cacophony, where the singers sing with staggered entries resulting in a flowing texture.
Rather than merging two voice groups into one during three-part passages, I would definitely recommend splitting the choir in both three and four groups, so the balance between the voices is good in both cases.
