Cycle of Chalk Laboratory (Igeltsoen Laborategia) (2011)
- Le Chant Du Monde (World)
Programme Note
'Chalk Laboratory' (Igeltsoen Laborategia) is a vast chamber music cycle, one of Lazkano’s major creative achievements, which experiments with small forms by ‘waving light and moveable musical textures’.
Lazkano's 'Laboratory' is inspired by the Basque sculptor Jorge Oteiza's own 'Chalk Laboratory',in which he experimented with sculpture of very small sizes made of fragile and lightweight materials, such as electric wires, tinplate or chalk.
'Chalk, as a white and bright material, used to draw the sign and thereby communicating it while running out as it leaves its mark behind, chalk, which squeaks on the slate, which is an extension of the hand and therefore a prosthesis for man and whose memory is linked to childhood and to the experience of learning, chalk which exteriorizes all thoughts through its crumbly nature, chalk erodes itself and turns to dust. Thus, it becomes a metaphor of all this music states and is about'.
