Programme Note
I often use onomatopoeia in my compositions. In 2014, during a residence at Senzoku Gakuen College of Music in Tokyo, I was inspired by the sound of a student’s voice, Shiori Gika, who chanted the texts of my pieces in the manner of Indian musicians. The latter use the voice to represent the rhythms played on traditional percussion instruments like the Tablas. This was the starting point for me of a dialogue between saxophone, voice and recorded percussion sounds.
I would advise playing this piece with a very precise rhythmic articulation, keeping as close as possible to the audio accompaniment.
Listen to the audio recording to hear the phonetic pronunciation of the texts.
