Programme Note

The subject of Nicolas Bacri's Fragments symphoniques is the ongoing metamorphosis of a single motive based on both Shostakovich’s (D, E flat, C, B natural) and the author's name B.A.C.R.I. and stated at the outset of the work. This common ‘genetic musical material’ symbolises the strong artistic kinship between the two composers. The theme is the cement that binds the multitude of 'fragments' making up the score, and which are so many variations following without a break, in a perfect stylistic unity.
