Not a great deal needs to be said about these pieces, which delight in sprightly, imitative counterpoint and meaningful constraint, and work equally well on the piano as on the harpsichord.

They are dedicated to Sandy Goehr with admiration and affection, who also liked to make much out of the minimum.
