Nocturnes: full orchestra (1987)
- Wise Music G. Schirmer Australia Pty Ltd (World)
Commissioned by Australian Ballet.. Commissioned as part of the program of commemorations of the Australian Bicentennial.
Programme Note
Drawing inspiration from the evocative and directly beautiful works of the American 'vernacular' artist Mafield Parrish, the Nocturnes are a sensual indulgence, expressed in a language this is richly poetic.
In their impressionistic quality, the Nocturns are clearly discernible as proceeding from earlier works like Rainforest, which had established the composer's reputation as a creator of rich orchestral sonorities and gestures.
— James Koehne
Nocturnes was choreographed by Graeme Murphy in the ballet Gallery (1987).
