Programme Note

Commissioned for her 90th anniversary, Histoires vraies is a concertante suite designed to bring together two legendary soloists: trumpeter Håkan Hardenberger and pianist Roger Muraro. The work is built on a series of concentrated, poetic episodes where the soloists shift between independent roles and merging into the orchestral texture. Jolas conceives the piece as a role-playing game: the piano often adopts a fanfare style to coax the trumpet away from its peaceful melodic lines and into a more idiomatic, rhythmic dialogue.

Incorporating stylized daily noises, like a false tuning session or a slamming piano lid, into a series of rhythmic snapshots. Rather than a linear story, the suite functions as a musical scavenger hunt where instrumental virtuosity meets unpredictable mechanical structures. This approach balances poetic episodes with the raw, "disturbing potential" of the composer's sonic environment.
