Programme Note

I have loved various versions of The Holly and the Ivy for many years and so I thought, especially thinking of my wonderful school music teacher, Timothy Moore, who used to write much jazz and gospel inspired music for our school choir, it was time I followed suit! I hope that the score is sufficiently indicative of style and approach, but just to add, I’d encourage choirs to sing it with a crisp but not too ‘deliberate’ or over stressed syncopation. The main thing is to have fun with it and let it swing by itself!
